Communicate: The Who, the What and the How! Year One Learning Sequence

The Australian Curriculum:English Rationale states that :
It is through the study of English that individuals learn to communicate with, and build relationships with, others and with the world around them.

Texts
Texts provide the means for communication.
They can be written, spoken or multimodal, and in print or digital/online forms.

So WHO do students communicate with as per the Australian Curriculum?  One way to reflect on this question would be:
1.Using the Year Level Description identify WHO students at your year level need opportunities to communicate with.

2. Is this WHO you would typically plan for the students to communicate with?

3. View the YLD before and after yours. How does it build in terms of WHO students communicate with?
The Year One learning sequence contained in this post was developed by Year One teacher Jenny Russell from Woodlands PS in our work as a Teacher Development School.

The sequence is linked to The Australian Curriculum - English content descriptions.
